Lily Cheetham is a contemporary artist whose explores the intricate connections between family history and craft. She creates compelling textile and mixed media pieces that challenge traditional boundaries between art and craft.
As ‘Nankid’ – raised primarily by her grandmother She draws inspiration from her family’s creative heritage, this includes generations of artists, crafters, and makers. Her practice is deeply personal, incorporating inherited materials like family photographs, vintage fabrics, and historical documents.
Lily’s artistic approach is characterised by meticulous craftsmanship and her pieces frequently engage with feminist narratives and explore themes of memory, tradition, and transformation. She is equally passionate about subverting traditional art forms, bringing humour and contemporary perspective to inherited craft techniques.
Beyond her visual art, Lily is a member of Boss Morris, an innovative all-female Morris dancing group that reimagines traditional folk performance. This creative practice further reflects her commitment to honouring traditions while pushing artistic boundaries.
With exhibitions including show “Piecework”, Lily continues to develop a distinctive artistic voice that celebrates personal history, skilled craftspersonship, and creative innovation.
